WHAT DOES WEALTH MANAGEMENT MEAN?

All types of people call themselves “wealth managers” or “financial advisors” but not many of these people are actually providing any measurable degree of value in these services to everyday investors. The term gets thrown around so much that I realized that I should define what it means to Asset Advisors. 

Wealth management is the combination of financial planning and portfolio management in the pursuit of our client’s goals.  Helping clients accomplish their goals is the primary function and we utilize the tools we have in that pursuit.  I know that is a fairly broad and general definition so lets discuss specifically what Asset Advisors does when a client comes for help. 

NEEDS ANALYSIS

When a client seeks out Asset Advisors help, we begin by meeting to discuss what the client hopes to gain from this relationship, what their goals and dreams are and determining if we can help the client in their pursuit of these goals.  If it looks like the relationship will be a good fit, we begin the discovery process.

DISCOVERY

In order to provide the client with suitable and comprehensive advice, we first need to determine what the client is currently doing so we can see what changes may need to be made.  We ask a series of questions to determine the client’s preferences, experiences and risk tolerances.  We then gather all of the factual data (i.e. brokerage statements, 401(k) statements etc.) and review that thoroughly.

INVESTMENT PLAN AND EXECUTION

Once we have had time to thoroughly review all of the information obtained, we create a customized plan for the client.  The plan encompasses all aspects of the client’s financial life including pace, strategy, structure, probability of attainment, as well as alternative scenarios.  We will lay out our portfolio strategy to help the client obtain their goals and come to an agreement with the client on what is necessary to execute this plan.

FOLLOW UP

Through quarterly calls and meetings, we review progress and address any changing client needs.  Regular newsletters keep clients abreast of any changes in the financial landscape and address any concerns in the market.  Annually, we provide the client with an updated financial plan so that they always have a firm grasp on where they are heading and how close they are to reaching their goals.

ADDITIONAL ISSUES

Not only does the financial planning process give the client a roadmap of how to obtain their goals but it also helps to identify potential issues in their financial life.  We can help address if the client’s estate planning, risk management and tax planning needs are being met and offer recommendations on these items.

WEALTH MANAGEMENT IN SUMMARY

This is our full service wealth management strategy designed to cater to those clients who know where they want to be and want professional guidance to help them get there. 

For clients who do not require all of these services, we may be available for more limited services on a case by case basis.
